Use Newclay Hardeners to speed up drying and improve the durability of Newclay™ or Claydium™ models. Two versions are available. Newclay Hardener H1™ is supplied as a powder, which is dissolved in hot water and the solution applied onto a Newclay™ or Claydium™ model once it is dry to give the article a surface or “case” hardness. Additional coats can be applied as required, depending on the importance of the work and the degree of hardness required.
Details for use:
Hardener H2 (yellow) is kneaded into Newclay just prior to use. Clay thus treated should be consumed that day, generally surplus clay is not recoverable. The addition of up to 5% by weight is recommended.
When the piece is quite dry a considerable increase in the state of hardness - compared to untreated clay - can be expected but the hardness can be further increased if the work is slowly warmed to a temperature of 400°F or 200°C.
Hardener H1 cannot be used as a substitute for H2 and vice versa.
Hardeners should be retained in a damp proof container.
